A P-Trap is a J-shaped assembly of pipe and fittings below a plumbing fixture which uses water to create a seal that prevents sewer gas from passing from the drain pipe back into the occupied space of a building. All plumbing fixtures (bathtubs, sinks, toilets etc.) must be equipped with either an internal or external trap.
